After Level-5’s wonderful cult classic Fantasy Life came out on 3DS, and blew us all away with its depth, heart, and charm, it was a little disappointing to find out that the sequel would be a mobile-only game called Fantasy Life Online. It was even more disappointing to find out that it was only destined for release in Japan.
However, alongside the news that Level-5 will be closing down the servers for the Japanese version of the game on December 15th, the news broke that publisher Boltrend Games picked up Fantasy Life Online for a Western release.
The game’s story is set in Reveria, the continent on which the original game takes place, and features all 12 jobs (or “lives”) that Fantasy Life had. It’s a more mobile-game take on the story, of course, with rewards, progression, and a story that are more closely tied to dailies and limited-time in-game events, as well as the additional elements of building a village and multiplayer.
Fantasy Life Online is a freemium game, which means that it’s free to play and download, but contains in-app purchases. Players can buy currencies and passes that will cost anywhere from a dollar or two, all the way up to $100+. You’ll receive rewards for downloading the game, too: a Divine Summon Coin, 5 Medium XP Orbs, and 2,000 Dosh (the currency of the game).
Fantasy Life Online held a closed beta for English-speaking players between late October and early November, and now the release date is finally here. The game is available to pre-download now from the iOS App Store and the Play Store on Android, and services will go live at 6pm PT / 9pm ET (Dec 6th) and 2am GMT (Dec 7th).
To find out more about the game, and the events within the first few weeks of the servers being live, check out the official website.

I mean, Fantasy Life would’ve definitely benefitted from having more buttons for control options, better processing (60 FPS, among other things), and probably bringing back some cut content (any purpose to a giant cacti on a lone island in Al Maajik?).
Either way, if by some miracle Nintendo will lend a hand on making this happen, it’d be the stuff, in my opinion.

R.I.P. Jump Force 2019 – 2022
altblahblahblah 1 year ago #6 it probably could do well given it has a lot of the same appeal as stardew valley or animal crossing, but yeah, given level 5 is struggling a bit, and it was never a huge seller on 3ds, i wouldn’t bet on it. Shame really, it was a fun little game.
Ehw1 (Topic Creator) 1 year ago #7 My thoughts exactly. To me it’s just a better version of those games and with an actual controller, would be amazing.

IrisBlanchimont 1 year ago #9 It’s probably the one Level-5 game that would actually do better on Switch than 3DS (considering the success of similar games), but Level-5 and good decisions are incompatible concepts.
Harvestella is a new fantasy life simulation RPG coming to Switch and PC this November
Square Enix has unveiled Harvestella, a new life simulation RPG with a fantasy setting coming in November.
In Harvestella‘s world, seasons are controlled by four magical crystals called the Seaslight. However, these crystals have of late started developing “abnormalities”. This in turn has created an event called the ‘Quietus’ – a season where death is the prevailing weather. Crops are withering and dying, and monsters plague the outdoors, forcing people to stay in their homes for safety. Even worse, these Quietus seasons are getting longer, and more frequent.
That means it falls to you, who starts off as a humble farmer-slash-adventurer, to find out what’s going on. To start off you’ll be growing and caring for crops and helping them grow. You’ll turn these crops into ingredients, which you’ll use to cook and craft items which you can use as you head into the overworld. Think Stardew Valley meets Final Fantasy, and you’re on the right track.
The overworld, of course, will change depending on the seasons. You’ll visit various towns, interact with a host of different characters and get to do different tasks like fishing and more. Furthermore, you’ll also pick job roles like Fighter, Mage and Shadow Walker and explore dangerous dungeons with a party. Fighting your way through these will, hopefully, lead you to the answers of what’s corrupted the Seaslight.
Harvestella arrives on Nintendo Switch and PC on November 4, 2022 and in the meantime you can check out the game’s reveal trailer below.
