How to complete the Diallos quest in Elden Ring

The Elden Ring Diallos quest is available fairly early on in the Lands Between. You’ll meet this NPC when you first venture to Roundtable Hold, though his questline won’t start until you reach Liurnia of the Lakes. Diallos’s story arc ties into Jar-Bairn’s storyline as well as Volcano Manor (opens in new tab) in Mt Gelmir.

There are a surprising number of Elden Ring quests (opens in new tab) to complete and many are easy to miss, especially as the quest dialogue is generally vague too. The first major patch (opens in new tab) introduced new icons to help keep track of the NPCs you meet, but you still might get stuck wondering what to do next. So with that in mind, here’s how to complete the Elden Ring Diallos quest.

Elden Ring Diallos quest summary

You won’t be able to complete the Diallos quest if you defeat Rykard at Mt Gelmir early. Doing so causes everyone to leave Volcano Manor.

Here’s a brief summary of the steps you’ll take during Diallos’s questline:

Speak to Diallos at Roundtable Hold and he’ll tell you about Lanya.

Find and speak to Diallos in Liurnia, close to the Academy Gate Town.

Return to Roundtable Hold and speak to him at his original location.

Head to Volcano Manor and find Diallos in the same room as Bernahl. Exhaust his dialogue.

Keep checking in with Diallos every time you complete a step at Volcano Manor.

Once you start the second main assassination, Diallos will leave the manor.

Head to Liurnia and find Diallos at Jarburg (you need to work through the Jar Bairn quest (opens in new tab) a little way to get him to show up).

Elden Ring Diallos location: Where to find this NPC

After you initially meet Diallos in Roundtable Hold, you can find him again once you reach the Liurnia of the Lakes area. Fast travel (opens in new tab) to the Academy Gate Town Site of Grace to the southeast of Raya Lucaria Academy and you can find him almost directly north, standing on one of the rooftops. His exact location is shown in the screenshot above.

Speak to him and exhaust his dialogue, then return to Roundtable Hold to find him in his original location. Speak to him again and he’ll mention getting an invitation, as well as the location of the manor.

Find Diallos at Volcano Manor

Now you should continue exploring the Lands Between until you reach Mt. Gelmir and access Volcano Manor. You’ll need to join the Recusants to access the room where Diallos resides.

Once Tannith hands over the Drawing Room Key, use it to access the room down the corridor on your left. It’s the same room where you find the Volcano Manor letters on the table and Bernahl (opens in new tab) is sitting close by. Diallos can be found leaning against a wall so talk to him and exhaust his dialogue.

To continue the quest further, you should progress through the Volcano Manor questline. Return to Diallos and speak to him whenever you complete a contract and he will eventually leave.

Where to find Jarburg

The final step of Diallos’s quest takes you to Jarburg in Liurnia of the Lakes. You can get to this area by fast traveling to the Gate Town Bridge Site of Grace, then head east to the cliff just south of the Carian Study Hall (opens in new tab). The exact location is detailed in our Elden Ring Jar-Bairn quest (opens in new tab) guide.

Now you need to speak to Jar-Bairn to progress their quest. You’ll be asked if you’re the new Potentate, so reply that you are. Exhaust the dialogue then reload the area—either fast travel away or rest at a Site of Grace. Speak to Jar-Bairn again and they’ll mention Diallos has arrived.

Look for Diallos inside one of the huts and talk to him, once again exhausting his dialogue. Reload the area and speak to both Diallos and Jar-Bairn until they say something new, then pass time at the nearby Site of Grace so a whole night has passed.

You can now find Diallos in the centre of Jarburg. Select “You defended them” when prompted, speak to Jar Bairn again, then reload the area once more. Talk to Jar Bairn for the last time, then after a final reload, you can loot Hoslow’s Petal Whip, Diallos’ Mask, and a Numen’s Rune.

The Diallos quest in Elden Ring is one of the more involved NPC questlines, and thanks to the 1.03 update, it finally has a proper ending – though it’s not necessarily a good one.

It’ll take you to some dangerous locations, and you’ll have to join Volcano Manor to finally push Diallos forward. It might seem distasteful, but you’ll get some rare weapons in the process. Volcano Manor is also home to some of Elden Ring’s hidden lore, and later on, you’ll spend some time with the good jar folk of Liurnia.

Where is Lanya in Elden Ring?

Diallos, one of the Tarnished in Roundtable Hold, mentions he’s looking for his servant Lanya when you first speak with him. There’s no indication where she might be, but he asks you to let him know if you find her. He vanishes from the Hold eventually – possibly after you first reach Liurnia of the Lakes – but it seems like you can still progress this quest even if you didn’t speak to him first.

Lanya is in Liurnia, or more accurately, her body is. You’ll find her corpse north and slightly west of the Academy Gate Town Site of Grace. Diallos’ laments reach your ears before the scene comes into view, so you know you’re on the right track if you start seeing them on screen.

He mentions a house of despicable fiends, but there’s not much else you can do here. The house in question is Volcano Manor on Mt. Gelmir. You need to activate the Dectus Lift with two halves of the Dectus Medallion before you can even reach Mt. Gelmir, and that takes time.

Where are the Dectus Medallion Halves in Elden Ring?

We’ve outlined the medallion locations in greater detail, but here’s a short version.

The first half is in Fort Haight in Limgrave, south of the well that takes you to Siofria River. The second is in a much deadlier area: Fort Faroth in Caelid. This is south of the Bestial Sanctum, near the giant dragon that grants you 70,000 Runes if you defeat it. The problem is, it’s full of bats and murderous harpies that can grab your head and kill you instantly. You’ll want to avoid engaging them in combat, run through and find the ladder at the other end of the room. Climb up it, and you’ll find the chest.

The Lift takes you to Altus Plateau, and Volcano Manor is to the west, through Seethwater (go north from Wyndham Ruins) and beyond Demi-Human Queen Maggie and Comet Azur. Once you arrive, you’ll have a suite of other quests to potentially pick up. Finishing the Lanya quest involves visiting the manor and accessing the Drawing Room. Diallos changes his mind and decides to join the Manor and fight.

If you take the letter from the Drawing Room, you can challenge Old Knight Istvan to a duel. Defeating him earns you the Scarlet Armor Set and, back in the Manor, the Magma Shot Sorcery. The next quest tasks you with taking down another Tarnished, and after that, Diallos begins questioning his loyalties. Once you finish the Volcano Manor quest or defeat Rykard, Diallos leaves, and his quest intertwines with Jar Bairn’s quest.

Diallos Questline: How to complete Diallos’ Quest

After talking with Diallos at the Roundtable Hold, you’ll find him to the North and slightly West of the Academy Gate Town Site of Grace in Northern Liurnia [Map link] atop a sunken roof. Diallos is standing at ground level west of the grace on the northern edge of the town ruins. If you look on the map, he’s located at almost exactly the rightmost tip of the Academy Gate Town icon. NOTE: If you complete the Volcano Manor legacy dungeon before speaking to Diallos here, he will not appear and you cannot complete the quest – making this progression a potential point of failure.

After accepting the second letter from Volcano Manor, he will leave the manor and relocate to Jarburg.

After progressing Jar-Bairn’s questline he will appear in one of the shacks, tending to a little jar. Repeatedly talk to Jar-Bairn and rest at the Site of Grace in Jarburg until Jar-Bairn talks about poachers. If you’ve gotten this questline to advance, Jar-Bairn will talk about a new Potentiate who’s just arrived.

After seeing him in Jarburg, let some time pass. Once enough time has passed, and you can talk to Diallos once more. After exhausting dialogue with him and Jar-Bairn you can rest to advance the quest.

After passing enough time, Jarburg is attacked and Diallos is wounded. You can talk to him and he’ll ask if he was able to defend the jars, to which you can tell him he succeeded or he failed. He will die shortly after. Upon reloading the area, Jar-Bairn will move over to Diallos, scavenging his remains and taking up Diallos’s legacy.

After some time, Diallos’s body will disappear, leaving behind Diallos’s Mask, Hoslow’s Petal Whip, and a Numen’s Rune where he was last encountered. Hoslow’s Petal Whip does drop on his body if already obtained from assassinating Juno Hoslow.
